Sedef Yılmabaşar Ertugan

Sedef Yılmabaşar Ertugan, the daughter of a ceramicist and painter mother (Jale Yılmabaşar) and an architect/engineer father (Necdet Ertugan), was attracted by colors and textures and decided to become a stylist after graduating from Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management in 1987. He continued his fashion education, which he started in Istanbul, in Paris. After returning to Istanbul, in April 1998, he opened his first personal exhibition called "Kedici" at Işık High School Art Gallery, for the benefit of the Feyziye Schools Foundation. Then, he opened his second personal exhibition at Neyran Art Gallery in November 1999 and his 3rd personal exhibition at Izmir Aphrodie Art Center in May 2000. Additionally, in March 2000, she was chosen as the "Most Successful Woman of 1999 in the Plastic Arts Branch" in the competition organized by the Oriflame company.

The artist received his first art education from his art teacher Fikret TARHAN in middle school and high school. In 1982, he met MAHMUT CUDA, who would have a radical impact on his paintings. By adopting the technique he used, he painted paintings compatible with objective reality.

He started his painting education in the Painting Department of Istanbul Avni Akyol Anatolian Fine Arts High School, where he won second place between 1999 and 2003. Between 2003 and 2008, he studied at Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts, passing all departments with a single score of 100 and choosing Painting.
After successfully completing his education, he went to New York and conducted research on American Art and World Museums, Fairs and Galleries, along with language education. He expanded his experiences and paintings gained in Manhattan and Brooklyn after returning to his country. One of the artist's important works is located in "Project 4L / Elgiz Contemporary Art Museum", one of the most important Private Collection Museums in Turkey. It is possible to access some of the artist's works at "Art Brokerage", one of the most comprehensive Fine Art Galleries in America.

Başlangıcından 20. yüzyıla kadar Türk Denizcilik Tarihi içinde gemileri ve tekneleri incelediğimiz bu çalışmada, tanık olduğumuz bilimsel-görsel belge eksikliğinin yarattığı zorlukları aşmaya çalışıldı. Sınırlı görsel kaynaklarla yola çıkıp, yazılı kaynaklardan yararlandı. En önemlisi diğer Akdeniz ülkelerine ait teknik-bilimsel görsel kaynaklar çok yardımcı oldu. Türk ve yabancı bilimsel-belgesel kaynaklardan yararlanarak üç boyutlu canlandırmaya yardımcı olması amacıyla bazı gemilerin rekonstrüksiyonlarını da yaptık.

İngilizce-Türkçe olarak hazırlanan eserin yelken ve kürek dönemi Türk-Osmanlı savaş ve ticaret gemileri konusundaki görsel ve biçimsel veri eksikliğini bir ölçüde de olsa gidermeyi umuyoruz.
